After returning from a vacation in the Bahamas, Moss was approached by Storm Management’s founder Sarah Doukas in 1988 when she was 14 years old.

They met at JFK Airport in New York. When she was 16 years old, Corinne Day styled and photographed a series of black-and-white pictures of her for The Face titled “The 3rd Summer of Love.”

Day called the images “dirty realism” or “grunge,” and Moss was portrayed as a youthful unknown.

The daughter of bartender Linda Rosina Moss (née Shepherd) and airline worker Peter Edward Moss, Moss was born on January 16, 1974, in Croydon, Greater London.

She was reared in the borough’s Addiscombe and Sanderstead neighborhoods. She also has a half-sister named Lottie and a younger brother named Nick (Charlotte).

When Moss was 13 years old, her parents split. She attended Riddlesdown High School (now Riddlesdown Collegiate) and Ridgeway Primary School in Purley. In her early teens, she held a number of small retail jobs.
